Smolensk, two years later: new evidence against the Russian version.

(B2) The Smolensk crash, which killed President Lech Kaczyński and decimated the Polish government, administration and General Staff on April 10, 2010, was the subject of a new public hearing in the European Parliament on Wednesday March 28, two years after what is billed as the biggest aviation "scandal" since World War II. "The Smolensk crash: the truth rejected" is the explicit title of the event organized by the delegation of the Law and Justice party (PiS, member of the political group "European Conservatives and Reformists")) and by the association families of victims (Katyn 2010 Families' Association).

Russian responsibility

Polish and American experts have brought new evidence, scientific and legal, showing that the official investigations, Russian or Polish, are incomplete or rather intentionally distorted. The conclusions presented by these experts, as well as by the PiS or the association of the families of the victims, are radically different from the official version of the "pilot error". According to them, the responsibility is directly Russian, and the Polish government of Donald Tusk would be guilty of accepting the Russian version so as not to "angry" the big neighbor. The Russians would have deliberately tried to prevent President Kaczynski's plane from landing, without premeditating the crash. This version is corroborated by emails revealed by Wikileaks in early March.

A tree that would cut the wing in two? Unlikely according to experts.

One point in particular, a pillar of the argument of the MAK (Russian Interstate Aviation Commission which conducted the official investigation for Moscow), has been scrutinized by scientific studies. According to the MAK report, the left wing of the Tupolev 154M struck a tree, which cut the wing in two and caused the dismantling of the rest of the hull. However, according to the experts, such a thing is impossible: it is on the contrary the wing which would have cut the tree. The damage on the ground and on the fragment of the wing correspond moreover to a much lower speed than that which the plane should have had around the said tree. The wing separated about 70 meters later. These are " two explosions before the crash which would have caused the overturning and dismantling of the hull.

Official investigations controlled by the political power

With regard to the more "legal" elements, it is the conflicts of interest and the lack of independence of the official investigations that are denounced.

NB: elements to be taken very cautiously. The nature of the experts, like the political orientation of Law and Justice (PiS), does not allow this investigation to be given the necessary label of objectivity that it requires.
