Ukraine and Moldova open joint border post

The common post will be managed according to European standards. (EUBAM Moldova Ukraine)

(BRUSSELS2) The Briceni-Rossoshany border post - between Moldova and Ukraine - will, from today (22 February), be managed jointly by the border guards and customs of the two countries, according to European standards (type Schengen)! This pilot project is the first of its kind, initiated and supported by customs officers from the European mission EUBAM (Border Management Assistance) deployed in Moldova and Ukraine.

The test phase will last six months. During these six months, entry and exit control will be conducted on the territory of Ukraine, in Rossoshany. And the procedures of the border guard and customs services of Moldova and Ukraine will be unified, simplified and optimized. The authors of this project hope that the time required to cross the border for travelers and goods will be “ considerably reduced », with a use « more efficient » human and technical resources, avoid duplication.

To achieve this, it took several years of work for the experts from both countries brought together in a working group led by EUBAM. A JoBCP protocol had been signed by the border guard and customs services of the two countries in December 2011; and the final operational document on February 7. If the experience proves to be positive, the experience could be extended to other positions between the two countries.
