The US wants access to the secure part of Galileo

(B2) The political and military experts of the "27" discussed, on Monday, the American request to open a dialogue with the European Union on the possibility of access to the regulated public service (PRS). Access to the PRS is normally restricted to authorized users, mainly public authorities, such as the police, border control authorities or civil protection authorities. It is secure and encrypted for sensitive applications that must continue to operate even in crisis situations where other services may be interrupted. The EU and the United States have already signed an agreement allowing the American (GPS) and European (Galileo) systems to be compatible.
