Seven Syrian government ministers blacklisted

(B2) Seven ministers of the Syrian government today joined the blacklist banning them from staying and freezing their assets in the European Union:

  • the Minister of Health, Dr. Wael Nader Al-Halqi, because “ under his authority, hospitals were ordered to refuse treatment to protesters »;
  • the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Mansour Fadlallah Azzam;
  • the Minister of Communications and Technology, Dr. Emad Abdul-Ghani Sabouni, for having “ seriously hampered (the) freedom of access to the media »;
  • the Minister of Education, Saleh Al-Rashed, for allowing the use of “ schools as makeshift prisons »;
  • the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Sufian Allaw;
  • and the Minister of Industry, Dr Adnan Slakho because these “resources are an important source of financial support for the regime »;
  •  the Minister of Transport, Dr. Fayssal Abbas, for having “ provided logistical support to law enforcement ».

On the other hand, the president of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, Emad Ghraiwati, who also has American nationality, was removed from the blacklist.
