Downsizing in sight at Eulex Kosovo

(BRUXELLES2) After the French in March, it is the Italian and Romanian police officers who could leave the Eulex mission by the end of the year according to information received by B2, not officially confirmed. The territorial police units available to the European mission would then be reduced to Polish personnel only. This raises the question of their sustainability.

The future of the Eulex mission - one of the largest in the European Union with more than 3000 people on the ground - should be discussed by the 27 ambassadors of the COPS (political and security committee) soon. The objective is indeed to review the terms of the mission for the years to come, taking into account both the new budgetary situation and the situation in Kosovo. On the agenda, a tightening on a few more limited objectives. Where Europeans are absolutely necessary, such as major legal cases (corruption for example).
