Stephan Lehne joins Carnegie Europe
(BRUSSELS2) Stefan Lehne, a former member of the Solana team and Balkan specialist, joins the Carnegie Europe think tank as a "visiting scholar".
Lehne was one of the heads of security policy at the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU, as head of the Balkans task force in the policy planning unit and director of the Balkans, Central Europe and Central Asia ( from 2002 to 2008) in the Political-Military and External Affairs DG of the Council. In 2005, he was appointed personal representative of Javier Solana on the status of Kosovo, leading the first negotiations under the aegis of the European Union. In 2009, he joined the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as head of the "European Integration" department.
Born in Innsbruck in 1951, he graduated in law from the University of Vienna and in international relations from the Fletcher School (USA). After joining the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he worked at the United Nations Mission in New York, at the OSCE and the EU (1997-1999), then became Deputy Director General for European Integration (1999-2002 ).
