A part-time communicator for Defense Europe

(BRUSSELS2) A press officer has (finally) been appointed within the European Commission and the European External Action Service to deal with defense and security issues. It was time. It has been almost a year since the staff of the Council of the EU was transferred to the European diplomatic service and the two press officers, assigned full time to this question, have therefore left for other functions.

The new communicator is a Frenchman, Sebastien Brabant, who was previously in charge of communication and information at the Delegation of the European Commission in Lebanon. But in his task schedule, he will not only have defense and security issues to deal with, it will only be part of his tasks.

A half-time of sorts. It is true that these issues have never been and do not seem to be becoming a "top priority" for the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

Nor even for the Member States, starting with those who have nevertheless initiated the ESDP process….. and have included in the Treaty of Lisbon provisions on which they sit happily today….
