Sandomingo EU representative in Central America
(BRUSSELS2) It is a Spanish diplomat, currently posted in Peru, Francisco Javier Sandomingo, who could become the new EU representative in Central America. The decision was confirmed by the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the EU, Catherine Ashton, in Sopot (Poland). Sandomingo will be based in Managua (Nicaragua), will represent the EU in all the countries of the region, except in Guatemala, where the Union has another delegation.
Spanish Ambassador to Peru since 2004, Sandomingo previously served as Director General of Foreign Policy for Latin America (from 2004 to 2008). He has been posted to Costa Rica, Mexico, Thailand and Cuba, Deputy Director General for Eastern Europe, Consul General of Spain in Hong Kong, Spanish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia. He was born in La Coruña on January 25, 1954; a law graduate, he joined the diplomatic service in 1980.
