The mandate of the EU Special Representative in Sudan amended
(BRUSSELS2) At the same time as his mandate was extended (until 30 June 2012), the EU Special Representative in Sudan was slightly amended to take account of developments on the ground (the secession of South- Sudan) and the constant concerns of the European Union. The objective being to achieve a peaceful coexistence between Sudan and South Sudan" and to actively contribute to the resolution of all outstanding issues relating to the comprehensive peace agreement and the post-comprehensive peace agreement ". It is also about " support the mitigation and elimination of threats posed by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) to the stability of South Sudan and the wider region (Congo, Uganda in particular). An entirely new objective that was not included in the previous decision.
In terms of means, they are almost identical. Simply the possibility of establishing a regional office in Darfur (in addition to the one established in Khartoum and Juba) is suppressed. On the budget side, the annual envelope amounts to 955.000 euros to cover an additional year of mandate (which in fact corresponds to a reduction, the previous budget was 1,8 million).
