Training of the Somali army: we extend

(BRUSSELS2) The 26 (27 minus Denmark) officially approved on Thursday (28 July) the extension of the EUTM Somalia mission for a period of twice six months. The objective has been refocused on three areas: the development of a Somali command structure (what is called in military terms "C2" as command and control), certain specialized functions (medical support, etc.) and the training of trainers with the aim of "transferring European training expertise to local players". The mission remains based in Uganda. And elements of EUTM will also be placed in Nairobi and Brussels. From a formal point of view, the decision still needs to be approved. This will be done by written procedure. It is an Irishman who takes over the management of the operation, Colonel Michael Beary, from August 9, taking over from the Spaniard Ricardo Gonzalez Elul.
