Serbia to sign agreement for participation in EU defense missions in May

The new faces of the Serbian Air Force, Anje Krnete, Sander Radovanovi? and Ane Tasi?

(BRUSSELS2) You will still have to wait before seeing these formidable naiads, the new generation of the Serbian air force (*) in an operation of the European Union.

The signing of the framework agreement for Serbia's participation in European operations has, in fact, been postponed from March to May. " There is no political problem explained Tanja Miskevic to EURACTIV Serbia. But the start of operations in Libya has made many interlocutors unavailable in Brussels, we explain behind the scenes.

This signing has an eminently political overtone, as Serbia refines its accession to the European Union. In a way, it would mark the return of the former Yugoslav state to the concert of European nations, while negotiations continue between Belgrade and Pristina.

On the military side, the first Serbian participation could be in the Indian Ocean, within the framework of the anti-piracy operation Eunavfor Atalanta, by providing on-board protection teams (VPD). Serbia already participates in some UN peacekeeping operations with modest numbers: 27 people deployed between Congo, Liberia, Côte d'Ivoire, Cyprus and Lebanon.
