NATO has taken command and control of operations in Libya

NATO now oversees all operations in Libya, ensuring the C2, the " command and control ". Either a day ahead of the scheduled date (Friday was April 1, not great for organizing a handover). But everything is not yet perfectly settled...

NAC Extended Meeting

An enlarged meeting of the NAC - the Council of NATO Ambassadors - was held, with all NATO partners, whether it is the Partnership for Peace (Central and Eastern Europe, Russia... ), the Mediterranean Dialogue and the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative and other partners (Australia, South Korea). " It was a large room and I can tell you that it was full" explains the NATO spokesperson », Oana Langescu who however refused to indicate who was present. The aim was to inform our partners about what NATO was doing. " We are fully committed to protecting civilians in Libya ».

Not all details are approved yet

Despite the appearance, and the successive announcements for several weeks that NATO is taking control of all military operations, everything is not yet really settled within the Alliance. And the political discussions continue. Thus an exceptional meeting of the NAC - this time reserved for NATO members - was convened this afternoon (Thursday 31 March).
