Japan asks for the coordination of European aid. A MIC team on the way out

A team of 10 people from the MIC (the European crisis unit "civil protection) is ready to leave for Japan, in order to coordinate the aid provided by the Member States and to provide logistical assistance. This is a request even the Japanese, who want to avoid any dispersion and complication in managing this aid: that the Europeans come with their coordination structure. The ten experts come from 8 Member States (Czech Rep., Hungary, Sweden, Poland, Norway*, Italy, -Bas). And a radiological component could also be put together. The goal is to have the "maximum efficiency with minimum human resources“explains on the side of the MIC.

Faced with the evolution of the situation (tsunami + nuclear disaster and evacuation of a larger area of territory), Japan has also revised its request for resources: there is no longer any question of rescue teams (search and rescue , or medical facilities) but more resources to support the thousands of displaced people (blankets, bedding, boots, water tanks, etc.). The first relief offers, made by 19 European countries must therefore be reviewed. According to our information, Sweden and France have already made an aid offer in response to the specific request from the Japanese authorities.

* Participating in the MIC system are non-EU member states such as Norway.
