An Italian in command of EUFOR Libya?

Born in Naples on April 10, 1953, after the naval academy in Livorno (1972-1976), Claudio Gaudiosi embarked on the destroyer Intrepid (1977-1978) as information officer, then served on the frigate perseo, always in the same functions (1981-1983). He took his first command in 1983, aboard the ITS Brenta, an oil tanker.

He served twice on the aircraft carrier Garibaldi, aircraft carrier today engaged in the NATO operation “Unified protector”, as “Executive Officer” (1991 to 1993) then as commanding officer (1998-1999). It participates in particular in the campaign to support the UN operation in Somalia (UNOSOM) aimed in particular at ensuring humanitarian delivery. He also commanded the frigate “Grecale” (1993-1994).

Assistant to the Chief of Naval Staff (2001-2003), he was promoted to Rear Admiral in January 2002, and took charge of the personnel department in 2003. In 2004, he moved to the Ministry, becoming deputy head in the office of the Minister of Defense, Antonio Martino (2004 to 2006), and head of the public relations department of the Naval Staff (2006-2009). In February 2009, he took command of the Italian maritime forces (COMITMARFOR). In this capacity he notably commands the “Loyal Midas” exercise in the Mediterranean, aboard Etna, aimed at training NATO's rapid reaction force. Since March 2, 2011 he has been the deputy commander of the Italian Joint Operations Headquarters.
