Former Quay spokesman named EU number 2 in Washington

(BRUSSELS2) Frenchman François Rivasseau was appointed today as number 2 of the European Union embassy in Washington in the United States, alongside Joao Vale de Almeida (the former chief of staff of José Manuel Barroso). For five years, from 1998 to 2003, he was the director of communication and information and spokesperson for the Quai d'Orsay, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the time of Hubert Védrine then Dominique de Villepin, after having been its deputy director. In July 2003, he became the head of the French delegation to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva; then held the position of number 2 in Washington, at the French Embassy in the United States.
