Polish Maciej Popowski in charge of crisis management

It was last Monday, in one of Val Duchesse's rooms. It was freezing cold outside. But inside it wasn't any better, apparently. “We were freezing,” says one of the witnesses to the scene. The High Representative, Cathy Ashton, had chosen to do a first “team building” with the leaders of the future diplomatic service. There were the “Top Four” – Pierre Vimont, David O'Sullivan, Helga Schmid and Maciej Popowski – as well as Cathy Ashton's close advisors. On the menu are adjustments to the diplomatic service and the organization of services. Helga Schmid, deputy secretary general, will be the “political” director of the Service. While Maciej Popowski will be responsible in particular for interinstitutional issues as well as (this is new) crisis management and liaising with the PeSDC structures. As for the department directors (managing directors), everything does not seem to be completely settled yet. Various adjustments to the division of departments were made. And not all hearings are completed or conclusive. It would thus have been decided to do another round of the trail for the director of the “Themes” department. As for the Swede Christian Leffler who was until now part of the top list, he could no longer be part of it. Too many Swedes are harming the Swedes… To be continued.
