The “Somali” pirates: conquering the East!

We can now stop saying "off Somalia" when we talk about an attack by Somali pirates but rather off ... India. The last recorded attack took place at 13°18 North and 68°56 East, approximately 350 miles west of New Mangalore... in India. We're a few miles from the exclusive economic zone.

A tanker was thus taken on October 27 under the fire of two pirate skiffs, we learn from a maritime source. He only owed his salvation to the acceleration of his speed and other protective measures taken by the sailors on board. The pirates then, in accordance with their tactics, abandoned their pursuit. But the threat remains. These skiffs did not come alone. A suspicious boat was spotted about 14 miles away that could very well serve as a mother ship.
