Jack Lang: Nothing prevents me from thinking about political solutions for Somalia
(BRUXELLES2) "My work consists of thinking about judicial solutions, prison solutions, which are compatible with our democratic foundations and human rights." Here is how Jack Lang, recently appointed adviser to the Secretary General of the UN on the delicate question of prosecuting Somali pirates, defines his mission, questioned by our colleagues from France-Inter, Thursday morning. But, behind the law professor, the politician is not far. And Jack Lang could not help but widen, a bit, the scope of his mission: "Beyond the law, there is also the political question of Somalia. And it is not forbidden to think about it and make some suggestions." "It's an extremely difficult question, a growing phenomenon in the Indian Ocean, an impossible mission so I'm passionate about it!". And I "wanted to breathe the sea air" (in other words far from the contingencies of French political life and the PS).
