EU Ambassadors: “the best people for the right jobs” says C. Ashton

(BRUSSELS2) The list posting on this blog (exclusively) was the right one (phew!). Cathy Ashton thus confirmed, at 13 p.m., to journalists the appointment of 26 new ambassadors (27 including the confirmation of Usackas in Afghanistan) and 1 deputy ambassador.

The High Representative was delighted with a choice that reveals the geographical and gender balance. " I have appointed the best people for the right jobs. I am extremely pleased by the caliber of those who applied for the posts.” she said. “I have consistently asked member states and the EU institutions to put forward the brightest and best that Europe has to offer and I hope this will continue to be the case as we build the new European External Action Service, for the People of Europe.”

What was initially a challenge has now become a reality. The first wave of ambassadors new look has been named. It was not without pain. And there will undoubtedly be many comments, praising, regretting, or criticizing these nominations. There may be some legal challenges by candidates who believe they have been unfairly ousted. But the train is launched...
