Case Sakineh: Europe must act stronger, asks France

(BRUXELLES2) We are a little too soft on Iran! This is essentially the message that Bernard Kouchner, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, wanted to convey, who has just written to Cathy Ashton about the Iranian Sakineh, sentenced to death by stoning. It's necessary "a joint letter from all member states to the Iranian authorities" he explains. Not only for the Sakineh case but also for "all opponents". And if necessary the sanctions. "I want the European Council to relaunch its work against all those in Iran who organized the repression". This point should, according to him, be placed on the agenda of the informal meeting of Foreign Ministers, on September 10 and 11. NB: note that Rachida Dati (who shoots press releases faster than her shadow ), tabled an emergency resolution in the European Parliament to support the Iranian.
