The French command of EUNAVFOR will be…

(B2) The Charles de Gaulle, an Awacs type aircraft, at least one frigate or even another support ship and a maritime patrol aircraft, the French takeover of command for the European anti-piracy operation EUNAVFOR Atalanta, mid-August, should be anything… except discreet. The French are indeed taking command of the area – this is the first time – and intend to make it known. A deployment of force which makes it possible to impose itself against the multinational maritime forces deployed in the region (Americans, Russians, Chinese, Indians, Japanese) but also to demonstrate French industrial know-how. As for military know-how, the Royal sailors have already demonstrated it on a few occasions during the liberations of the Carré d'As, the Ponant or the Tanit while the marines operated aboard Breton tuna boats. Their reputation therefore no longer really seems to be established.

  •  Commissioned in 2001, the Charles de Gaulle (R-91) is a new generation nuclear aircraft carrier that can carry up to 40 aircraft: 12 Rafale marine, 20 Super Etendard – with a catapult capacity of one aircraft all the 30 seconds -, 3 Hawkeye
(AWACs type aircraft), as well as 5 helicopters (Dauphin, Alouette). On board a maximum of 1950 sailors and airmen, with a food autonomy of 45 days. It can reach a speed of 27 knots and can cover 1000 km per day… Details here

The FHQ will be led by Rear Admiral Philippe Coindreau, a “PatMar”, in other words a maritime patrol command, who currently commands the naval strike group. What else can I say... Be careful pirates, the bandits are coming!
