The Kenyan Buffalo
is the latest addition to the Eunavfor Atalanta operation. It’s interesting because it’s the first direct African contribution. There were already Djiboutian and Yemeni liaison officers on the ships. The coast guards of neighboring countries (Seychelles, Yemen, Puntland, etc.) also collaborated in the operation by exchanging good practices and by sometimes carrying out joint operations to pursue or even arrest pirates (notably with the Seychelles forces). ). Here, a higher level is taken. Closer collaboration is thus established between Europeans and Africans. The Europeans have, moreover, provided the Kenyans with observation equipment (notably a camera) making it possible to make the plane more efficient. The photos are then sent either to the force headquarters (FHQ at sea) or operations headquarters (OHQ in Northwood). This collaboration is also interesting on a tactical level: the Kenyan plane makes it possible to monitor the Somali basin on its southern slope. Which completes the device.
