Somali government deploys coast guard off Mogadishu

(B2) The Transitional Federal Government has publicly announced that it will deploy its coastguards around Mogadishu in an effort to combat piracy. Newly formed, these forces - which would number 528 men - will deploy alongside AMISOM, the United Nations mission in Somalia. The latter would guard Mogadishu's southern coast while Somali sailors would guard the northern coast between the port and Elma'an, a natural harbor 15 miles north of Mogadishu, the maritime resources minister told reporters.
