A new group of Russian ships deployed during the summer

(B2) After the Russian destroyer Admiral Panteleyev returns home (in Vladivostok), the Russian fleet will not abandon the area. According to the Ria Novosti news agency, the commander of the Russian Pacific fleet, Vice-Admiral Konstantin Sidenko, has ordered the preparation of a new force which should leave for the Gulf of Aden in a few weeks, in later in early July.

(Update: June 26) This task force will leave on June 29 for the Gulf of Aden, confirmed the Russian fleet HQ. It will be centered around the destroyer "Admiral Tributes" (an anti-missile destroyer of the Udaloy class, armed with sea-to-sea missiles, 100mm and 30mm guns), equipped with two Ka-27 Helix helicopters, a tanker - the Boris Butoma -, a salvage tug, MB-99, and a marine infantry unit.

Currently in the area, according to the Russians, operate 35 ships of 16 different nationalities. To which must be added the eight planes
maritime patrol
and about thirty helicopters on board the boats (NB: the European force EUNAVFOR Atalanta represents a third of this force). Which is starting to be a normally sufficient force, if well coordinated to bring some order to the area.

During these two months of presence, since April 27, Admiral Panteleyev has escorted 41 merchant ships. He foiled a pirate attack while escorting a convoy of six ships. He had seized 29 people, considered to be suspected pirates, before releasing him, under unclear conditions, by handing them over to the authorities of their country of origin (Iran, Pakistan) for trial.

Summary: Russia's Pacific Fleet task force led by the Admiral Panteleyev destroyer is heading back to its base in Vladivostok after an anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden. According

the pirate-infested waters.
