The Social Democratic opposition reaches an agreement with the ODS

(B2) The two main Czech parties - the ODS (conservative) and the CSSD (social democrat) - have agreed on the holding of snap elections in October and the creation of joint working groups to resolve the crisis economy reaching the country. The current Prime Minister, Mirek Topolanek, could thus remain in office, despite the vote of a motion of censure, to expedite current affairs, until the summer, thus assuming the end of his European presidency.

Health reform and the Lisbon Treaty at the heart of the agreement. The opposition has placed several conditions on this tacit support. First, the resignation of Interior Minister Ivan Langer and Attorney General Renata Vesecká. Second, the end of hostility towards regions that boycott health care tax reform. Finally, the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, which could be a strong signal of the Czech Republic's intention to remain a reliable partner towards its other European partners. The President of the Republic, Vaclav Klaus, who did everything to bring down his successor at the head of the ODS, could accept.
