A Turkish frigate engaged in CTF-151 (Us)


(B2) The Turkish frigate “TCG Giresun” (F-491) joined the American-led anti-piracy coalition (CTF-26) on (Thursday) February 151. Commanded by Captain Cenk Dalkanat, she joins the other ships involved in the operation, mainly American: the USS Monterey (CG 61) and the USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), as well as the destroyer USS Mahan ( DDG 72), notably equipped with drones (UAVs).

The only European participation so far was the Danish frigate HDMS Absalom (L 16) and British ships.

Absalon also intervened on Wednesday February 25 to thwart an attack by 7 pirates on a Chinese cargo ship. Going in search of the pirates, the Danes quickly located a boat matching the description. A visit on board found weapons on board, which were confiscated according to the Danish Navy Command. The pirates have not been arrested…
