Spain removes its commitment limit

(B2)Carme Chacon, the Spanish Defense Minister, announced before the Congress of Deputies the removal of the ceiling of 3.000 soldiers for Spanish troops deployed in international missions. This ceiling was imposed after the withdrawal of forces from Iraq in 2004, first set at 2600 soldiers and then increased in 2005 to 3000. For the Minister, it is an adaptation "to the new reality". The agreement setting this ceiling expires and the new Organic Law on National Defense now provides that each mission, fixing the number of people deployed. From January 1, this ceiling is increased to 7700. "This figure puts us in the leading group of Alliance countries that reach the 10% threshold.“explained Carme Chacon.
