Russian helicopters in Chad: the agreement soon to be signed

(BRUSSELS2) Russia and the European Union should sign the agreement on Russia's participation in Eufor Chad on November 5, said a Russian diplomat, according to the Novosti agency. 4 Russian Mi8 helicopters and a contingent of more than 100 men are planned. They should stay for the duration of the Eufor mission. But Russia should also continue this contribution under the UN flag.

Responding to a question from a parliamentarian, General Leakey, EU Chief of Staff, specified that the signature planned in St Petersburg had "had to be postponed" and that "the capacity could be available in December ". Regarding the command of the force (see the agreement with the Russians), the general recalled that they “will be under the EU chain of command, at the disposal of the commander-in-chief”. Of course, “there are national specificities – but as there are even for the Member States –: the number of flight hours, for example…” he specified.
