General Esteban-Verastegui appointed for EUSSR Guinea-Bissau

(BRUSSELS2) It is a Spanish general, Juan Esteban-Verastegui, who will head the mission to support security reform (EU SSR) in Guinea-Bissau. Aged 56, he was, until now, commander of the Airmobile Forces of the Army (FAMET). A unit he knows well since he started as a helicopter pilot, then as commander of the Transport Helicopter Battalion (Chinook), the "Bheltra V", before moving to the General Staff of this unit . He took part in several peace support operations, as Chief of the 4th Office (Log) of the General Staff of the Spanish Brigade of UNPROFOR (Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1992 –1993), Chief of Staff of the military division at Minuga (Guatemala, 1994-1995), deputy head of integrated support services at Monuc (Congo, 2003-2004).
