Discrimination: the directive not really applied

(B2) In an own-initiative report by MEP Kathalijne Outside road, adopted on 27 September, the European Parliament considers that progress still needs to be made in order to correctly implement this Directives of June 29, 2000. A certain number of provisions of the directive, in particular the definition of direct and indirect discrimination, of harassment, and the burden of proof, have not been correctly transposed in a number of countries, points out THE investigation report.
The Dutch Green MEP denounces the Commission's two-speed voluntarism.
"The European Commission must continue its efforts to monitor the application of the directive and, if necessary, initiate infringement proceedings before the end of this year. The Commission must act as quickly as possible, it has accumulated a significant delay taking into account that these procedures should have been ready since 2004. It is clear that when it comes to the internal market, the Commission does not hesitate to apply the community rules. Bill Gates was slapped with a hefty fine without delay. So why are the Member States allowing themselves all these delays when the problem of discrimination is very sensitive?"
