(BRUSSELS2) New elections could take place in the municipality of Mitrovica-Nord, told B2 on Wednesday (January 15) a European diplomat. “We are waiting for confirmation from Pristina”. At issue: the resignation of the mayor of the municipality and his refusal to take the oath under Kosovo law, during the constitution of the assembly of municipalities with a Serb majority in northern Kosovo, last Saturday (January 11). On the European side, we take the matter very seriously. The High Representative, Catherine Ashton has thus set a new date for the Serbian and Kosovar Prime Ministers, Ivica Dačić and Hashim Thaçi, to meet on Monday (27 January) in Brussels, to "discuss [among other things] on the matter". The municipality of North Mitrovica, already at the heart of tensions during the November elections, is the only one of the three municipalities in northern Kosovo (Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic) not to have taken the oath.
