Philip Hammond wants to cement the special Uk-Us relationship

(B2) During a visit to Washington, British Defense Minister Philip Hammond took symbolic delivery of the first new generation F-35B aircraft. He took the opportunity to announce a rapprochement with the United States. At a time when austerity measures are being put in place which greatly affect the defense budget, P. Hammond said he wanted to " reassure " his interlocutors “on our determination to remain a strong power» emphasizing the fact that «the ties between our armed forces are special". The British minister has moreover announced a plan to spend $250 billion on military equipment for the next ten years. The two men were also able to discuss more sensitive points such as the situation in Afghanistan and the situation following the withdrawal of troops.
