(BRUSSELS2) The French frigate Nivôse which is taking part in the European anti-piracy operation EUNAVFOR Atalanta is full to the brim with suspects. It intercepted, this Sunday, March 7, 11 additional suspects off the coast of Somalia. It was the Spanish P3 Orion aircraft deployed in the area that collected the first information. Two helicopters were dispatched to the sector: the French Panther from Nivose and the helicopter from Etna, the flagship of the European force. They "marked" the positions of the suspicious ships with smoke bombs. And two RHIBs - fast boats - from Nivosé left to intercept the pirates. Not without difficulty, they tried to take to their heels. Warning shots must therefore have been necessary.

In all, the frigate Nivose therefore has 35 presumed pirates on board, according to the General Staff of the Armies, in addition to the 22 apprehended twice, Friday, and 2 others recovered on March 6. Not counting the six pirates recovered aboard the Franco-Italian tuna vessel Torre Giulia. It must be said that, for several days, several pirate groups have been operating in the area between Seychelles and Kenya. 4 mother ships and six skiffs were thus seized. In all, this weekend, «  5 pirate groups were dismantled and more than 40 pirates apprehended » explained the HQ of Atalanta. To be continued...
