At least 600 French military personnel affected by the coronavirus.

(B2) About 600 soldiers have been affected by Covid-19 (coronavirus), the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, told the Dernières nouvelles d’Alsace (Strasbourg). A very approximate figure acknowledges the minister. « It is an order of magnitude, because it is evolving. » (1)

This does not affect the operational aspect, the minister assures the minister. « We are monitoring this very closely, and are adapting our arrangements accordingly. Our operational posture is not impacted. » (2)

The French army has one deceased person: “a civilian agent attached to the Defence Infrastructure Service died a few days ago”.

  1. A figure that relates to the total workforce (265,000 staff) gives a percentage of 0.2%. This seems very low. It is true that the total number of cases in the population (68,000 recorded today) gives a percentage of 0.1%. But everyone knows that this figure is false in the absence of a generalized test.
  2. One can slightly doubt this assertion. The logic of precaution imposes not only minimum distances (for example in vehicles), but also the confinement of any person who has been in contact with a person who has tested positive. This implies that entire units can (or should) be confined.
